The
Secret of the Stones is a conceptual art piece of 'municipal'
proportions by Derek R. Audette.
Have
you found a stone? Hold on to it! More info. regarding this art
project will become available on this web page in the very near
future.
I
will be adding a script to this web site in the future that will
allow you to positively authenticate any particular stone that
you may have in your possession. For the time being, if you would
like to authenticate a stone which you may have found, remember
these points:
Each
of the numbered stones contains:
1)
My name (Derek R. Audette or Derek Audette) (Written
in the script of the stones)
2) A unique serial number of varying lengths,
carved in alpha-numeric characters. Example: DA871NA4
3) The year in which that particular stone was
completed, carved in Roman numerals. Currently, all stones were
completed in 2004 and as such, each numbered stone contains the
Roman numeral: MMIV.
4) The unique number of that particular stone
written in Roman numerals. Examples: I, II, III, LV,
LXIV, XXVIII, etc.
-
If you have found one of the "lesser stones"
there is no real way to positively authenticate a lesser stone.
The only thing that each lesser stone has in common is that they
all contain my name. (either 'Derek R. Audette' or 'Derek Audette
- written in the script of the stones')
Current
special rarities to look for:
-
Blue stones are very rare. Each of them identify themselves
as being blue stones.
-
Quote Stones are rare. Some, but not all identify themselves
as being quote stones.
-
Lucky Stones are very rare. All lucky stones identify
themselves as being lucky stones.
-
Unlucky Stones are extremely rare. There is currently
(As of May 5th, 2004) only one in existence. (There
will most likely be more in the future, however, they will remain
rare) Unlucky stones identify themselves as being unlucky
stones.
-
Money Stones are very rare. Each money stone actually
contains a small amount of Canadian coin currency.
-
Treasure Stones will be very rare. There are currently
none in existence, but they are coming. Treasure stones will actually
lead you to treasure. The first treasure stone will not begin
to appear until sometime after the 'C' stone (one-hundred)
has been cast. (As of May 5th, 2004, a total of sixty-six
stones have been cast)
If
you would like to positively identify a numbered stone which you
have in your possession you can e-mail me at: DAudette@OttawaMusicScene.com
Please include the number (Found in Roman Numerals on the
surface of the stone) of the stone and the unique serial
number of the stone (Found in Alpha-Numeric characters on
the stone) and I will authenticate the stone for you.
Q:
What is The Purpose of the stones?
A:
The purpose of the stones is two-fold:
1)
I personally have a very deep attraction to the mysterious.
My hope is that most of the stones will be found by people who
have no idea about this art project. If one person in a-thousand
comes across a stone and experiences a sense of wonder or mystery,
even in the most miniscule way, I will have fulfilled the first
objective of this project.
2)
There is a certain attraction to actually involving
people in art entirely unbeknownst to them. Usually, when people
experience art, they do so after intentionally seeking it out.
They make a conscious decision to visit an art gallery, etc.
Because of this intent on the part of the viewer, the 'way'
in which they experience the art is affected.
Even if
a person comes across a work of art, such as a painting or a
sculpture by accident, and they have not intentionally seeked
the art out, a person, upon seeing the art, immediately recognizes
it as a work of art. And again, their experience of the work
is affected by this.
I want to
actually involve people in my artistic works without them even
knowing it. I want to actually engage average people on the
street who are not 'seeking' art. And, since, when coming across
a stone, they actually engage themselves in experiencing an
artistic piece, without knowing the exact nature of what they
are doing, their 'view' of the artistic involvement and their
own experience, I believe, is radically different than that
of someone who has made a conscious decision to actually seek
out and experience art or who is aware that the work they are
experiencing is in fact a work of artistic expression.
